Now, if there is one thing I love, it’s a good snack! And like many of us, I am always doing my best to choose healthier snacks. That is exactly why I love a good protein box. Protein boxes are customizable and easy to grab during a long workday or while you’re on the go.

Today, I am going to share my go to protein box, two ways. One savory and one that’s on the sweeter side. So whether you’re a savory or sweet kinda girl (or maybe you like a little combo of the two), hopefully this will give you some inspiration and you can have fun customizing your protein boxes.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE YOUR PROTEIN BOX:

So before we jump into making our protein snack box, let’s talk about assembly and storage. Of course you can choose to assemble and store your snacks in a variety of containers. But, I absolutely love Rubbermaid’s TakeAlongs Meal Prep Containers for these protein boxes. The TakeAlongs Meal Prep Containers come in multiple different sizes and colors. They are lightweight which makes taking your snacks on the go really easy.

Rubbermaid’s TakeAlongs Meal Prep Containers are BPA-free, microwave safe (reheat only), dishwasher safe (top rack), freezer safe and my favorite, they are stackable so you can stay organized and clutter-free.

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE A SAVORY PROTEIN BOX

  • Eggs, hard boiled. If I am making a protein box to enjoy right away, I always cook my eggs to ”jammy” instead of hardboiled. You can CLICK HERE for was full tutorial on how to cook jammy eggs.
  • Veggies (I’m using mini cucumbers and cherry tomatoes), but feel free to use whatever vegetables you like or have on hand.
  • Crackers, use whatever you like.
  • Hummus, more protein and it’s the perfect dip.

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE A SWEET PROTEIN BOX

  • Eggs, Protein
  • fruits (I’m using strawberries, blueberries and apples), but feel free to use your favorite fruits.
  • Crackers, again, use whatever you like.
  • Peanut butter, more protein and a great dip for the fruits. You can use almond or sunflower butter if you have a nut allergy.

You can also use Rubbermaid’s TakeAlongs Containers to assemble and store your protein boxes. The TakeAlongs Containers are also BPA-Free, Microwave, dishwasher and freezer safe. And the QuikClik seal on the lids audibly clicks into place so you know your food is protected while on the go.

Ingredients

  • Savory Protein Box

  • 1

    egg, hard boiled

  • 1

    tsp furikake seasoning

  • 4

pieces of “cracker cut” Gouda cheese

  • 1

    mini cucumber, sliced

  • 6

    cherry tomatoes

  • 8

    small crackers *SEE NOTES

  • 2

    tbsp hummus

  • Sweet Protein Box:

  • 1

    egg, hard boiled

  • 1

tsp everything but the bagel seasoning

  • 4

    strawberries

  • a handful of blueberries

  • 1/2

    an apple, sliced *SEE NOTES

  • 8

    small crackers *SEE NOTES

  • 2

    tbsp peanut or almond butter

Instructions

  1. To assemble the SAVORY protein box, place the egg in the larger side of your meal prep container (only cut the egg in half and serve with the furikake seasoning when you’re ready to serve. I have it cut in half for aesthetics in the photos). Now, gently nestle the cheese slices, cucumber pieces and cherry tomatoes next to the eggs. Spoon some hummus into the smaller side of your meal prep container and nestle the crackers next to the hummus.
  2. Now, to assemble the SWEET protein box, place the egg in the larger side of your meal prep container (only cut the egg in half and serve with everything but the bagel seasoning when you’re ready to serve. I have it cut in half for aesthetics in the photos). Now, gently nestle the strawberries, blueberries and apple slices next to the eggs. Spoon some peanut butter into the smaller side of your meal prep container and nestle the crackers next to the peanut butter.
  3. I recommend only prepping enough protein boxes for 2-4 days. I only prep a few at a time because of the hard boiled eggs. I personally don’t like keeping hard boiled eggs in the fridge for more than a few days. Technically hard boiled eggs will last up to 7 days in the fridge, but I like to play it safe.

Notes

  • * If you are prepping a few protein boxes ahead of time, I recommend adding adding the crackers only when you’re ready to eat/serve. Crackers will lose their freshness when they are refrigerated. So just add your crackers to the box when you’re ready to eat or before you take your protein box on the go.
  • * To help keep your apple slices from turning brown, cut them however you like and place them in salted water (about half a teaspoon of salt to 1 cup of water) for about 10 mins. Simply remove the apples from the salted water and place in the meal prep container along with the other ingredients.
